The Online Guide is an index to archival public records in the legal custody of the Vermont State Archives and Records Administration that were transferred by the public agency that produced or acquired the records in the course of their respective business functions and activities.
The index may be searched by the name of the public agency (creator) and/or business function (series title). The Series ID is also the Guide ID and the index can be searched by Series ID as well.
All fields use pattern searching, meaning that partial names or words may be used. To expand results, limit search terms to one field. To limit results, enter search terms in two or more fields in the search form.
Scope: Series consists of records gathered by Vermont in the Supreme Court case "The State of Vermont, Oratrix, v. The State of New Hampshire, Defendant", including copies of original colonial grants, lotting plans, legislation, photographs, notes, town record abstracts, maps, surveys, summaries of land grants and chain of title, excerpts from grand lists (Vermont), tax inventories (New Hampshire), transcripts of testimony, memos and reports. The Vermont / New Hampshire boundary was still not settled when Walpole N.H. tried to tax International Paper Co. property on former river bottom land in Bellows Falls in 1911. In response, Vermont filed a lawsuit in the U.S. Supreme Court in 1915; the court battle lasted 17 years until 1932 when the boundary was determined to be the low water mark of the west bank of the river.
Scope: Series consists of portrait photographs of Attorneys General Clarke C. Fitts (1904-1908), John G. Sargent (1908-1912), Herbert G. Barber (1915-1919), J. Ward Carver (1925-1931), Lawrence C. Jones (1931-1941), and Alban J. Parker (1941-1947).

Attorney General files relating to acid rain, Abenaki recognition and the American Trucking Association, 1982-2007.
Scope: Series consists of legal briefs, case files, agreements, research materials, correspondence, news clippings and notes. The records concern litigation with the federal government (EPA) on acid rain (1985-1992) and litigation with the American Trucking Association (1986-1992). There is material on the Abenaki request for federal tribal acknowledgement (1982-2007).

Scope: Series consists of records that are organized by subject concerning the administration of the Office of Office of Attorney General, including the formation or development of policy. Records subject to attorney-client privilege and other exemptions are not available for public inspection or copying pursuant to 1 V.S.A. � 317.
Scope: Series consists of correspondence, case files, and reports related to various criminal cases and investigations led by the Office of the Attorney General. Included are detective reports which document investigations of murders, illegal selling and drinking of liquor, gambling, prison escapes, larceny, arson and anarchists. There are also cases presented before the Public Service Commission.

Scope: Series consists of records pertaining to the abandonment of the right-of-way of the Rutland Railroad and the formation of the new Vermont Railway, Inc. Includes petitions for abandonment Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Railway Labor Executives appealing the orders of the Interstate Commerce Commission, petition for an extension of period of sales, lease agreements and tax exemptions.
