The VHRP provides technical assistance to historical records repositories around the state, including historical societies, museums, public libraries, academic libraries, and municipal clerks. We provide guidance on how to preserve and care for historic records, conduct onsite assessments of records storage and building environments, assist with writing grant applications, provide an online resource library and teach workshops, all for free!
If you have questions about how to care for your historical records, stop by our virtual office hours, held the last Tuesday of every month from 1-2 PM. The virtual office hours are also a great time to network with other cultural heritage workers around the state. Stop by when you can for as long as you like!
You can also schedule a virtual consultation or an in-person site visit with the Roving Archivist. Thanks to funding from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC), the VHRP has a light meter for measuring light levels in storage and exhibit areas and a HEPA vacuum for cleaning your building and collection materials that we can bring along and put to use when we visit. We have also launched an environmental monitoring program and a mobile digitization program.
