General Record Schedules

General Record Schedules (GRS) provide consistency in recordkeeping by Vermont public agencies for common functions and activities carried out by more than one public agency. Any Vermont public agency may adopt any or all of the requirements in a GRS approved by the Vermont State Archivist and implement through their own internal policies and procedures.

GRS are developed and issued in response to requests from public agencies and therefore do not cover all possible records created or received during the course of business by Vermont public agencies that are common to more than one public agency. Please contact us with GRS recommendations.

General Record Schedules

In addition to the above, the following GRS have been issued for specific government functions and activities performed by more than one public agency.

Business functions and activities performed by just one public agency or official are addressed through agency-specific record schedules (SRS). SRS may only be used by the agency or official to which the schedule was issued. SRS are only issued to agencies and officials that have initiated action with VSARA to update their records management programs.
