Individuals with Criminal Backgrounds

OPR believes that past criminal records should not bar individuals from being licensed. Our office approaches applicants for professional licensure on a case by case basis.  We take into consideration the nature of past criminal convictions, evidence of rehabilitation, and the profession.

In S. 233, OPR is advocating in the state legislature for pre-approval for prospective applicants of their criminal backgrounds before they go down a career path, frequently investing significant money in education.

For more information and specifics about the services available, please contact the OPR front desk and ask to speak to the licensing administrator for your profession at (802)828-2373 or sos.renewalclerk@vermont.gov.
