The State Archivist position evolved from the formal position of “Editor of State Papers” within the Secretary of State’s Office. The State Papers of Vermont series, first authorized in 1912, are primarily annotated texts from 18th century Vermont public documents but include some published indices. The history and progress of the Vermont State Archives and Records Administration is documented in annual and legislative reports, both required or requested by the General Assembly, as well as through other publications, including newsletters, and staff presentations.
