Where do I upload information for my application?

All documents must be submitted through the Online Licensing platform. To upload, select Update license/application from the dashboard.

Where do I find the online application?

Applications are submitted through the Online Licensing platform. You will need to create and account (if you do not have one already) and then apply. OPR no longer accepts paper applications.

How long does it take to process my application?

Processing time for applications and each additional piece submitted is three to five business days.

I have changed offices, what do I do?

Submit the Change of Information form to OPR by uploading it to your online account. Please allow three to five business days for processing. You will be able to verify the change on the online look-up and re-print your license.

If I am licensed in more than one state, do I need to send in verification from each?

No, OPR requires verification of your initial and most recent states of licensure.

Where do I get information on the national licensing exam?

PSI is the current provider of the national examinations for brokers and salespersons. Please contact them directly with questions on the national exams. You can contact the examination service at https://online.goamp.com/CandidateHome/CandidateInformation.aspx

Where do I find the state exam?

The state exam is now a part of the application process. You will receive a link within your online application. Before taking the exam, please review the Statutes, Rules & Resources webpage where you will find the information on the state exam.

I am licensed in another state, do I still need to take the state exam?

All applicants must take the state exam. There are no exceptions.

If I have been disciplined or have convictions, do I need to send in the documentation regarding this?

Yes. Convictions require a written explanation in your own words and all court documents. If you have discipline to report, make sure to provide all documentation related to the discipline.

Do I need to register with OPR if my business is already registered with the State of Vermont Corporations/Business Services?

Your registration to conduct business in the State of Vermont is different than your requirement to register with the Office of Professional Regulation (OPR). All Vermont businesses are required to register with the Secretary of State’s Corporations/Business Services Division. This is not your OPR registration.

What are the requirements to become a Vermont real estate salesperson?
  1. 40-hour pre-licensing course (education providers can be found on OPR's online course search);
  2. National exam (through PSI/AMP https://schedule.psiexams.com/);
  3. State exam (administered through the online application process); and
  4. Affiliation with a Vermont-licensed principal broker/office.

Do I need to take the 40-hour pre-licensing course if I am licensed in another state?

If you hold an active license in a state which is equivalent to Vermont, then you do not need to take the 40-hour pre-licensing course. Indiana and Rhode Island are not equivalent to Vermont.

I am licensed in another state, do I still need to take the national exam?

If you hold an active license in a state which is equivalent to Vermont, then you do not need to take the National exam. California, New York, Puerto Rico and West Virginia are not equivalent to Vermont, so you do need to take the National exam VT requires.

Do I need to be affiliated with an office?

Yes, you must be affiliated with a Vermont principal broker and Vermont registered office.

Do I qualify for Fast-Track Endorsement?

If you are licensed, in good standing and have been in continuous practice for three or more years in another U.S. jurisdiction you are eligible for a licensure via “fast track” licensing, however, the Vermont State exam is still required and is part of the fast-track license application. Please see, 3 V.S.A. § 136a.

Do I need to take the 40-hour pre-licensing course if I am licensed in another state?

If you do not qualify for fast-track licensure and hold an active license in a state which is equivalent to Vermont, then you do not need to take the 40-hour pre-licensing course. Indiana and Alaska are not equivalent to Vermont.

How do I report the 8 separate and unrelated closed transactions?

This is recorded on the Verification of Salesperson Experience Form that can be found at the Brokers and Salespersons Forms and Instructions page. This form must be signed and dated by your supervisor.

Do I have be affiliated with an office?

Yes, you must be affiliated with a Vermont registered office to activate your license.

What do I need to register my office?
  1. Complete the OPR office application which will include the following:
    1. Trust Account information;
    2. Federal ID number;
    3. Principal Broker
    4. Proof you have registered the name through the Corporations Division.

Please note that registering with the Corporations Division is separate from your OPR application. After you register your business with Corporations, you upload confirmation or registering your business to your OPR application. Please contact the Corporations Division for any information regarding business registration.

Can I work out of my home?

Yes, as long as you are licensed as a registered office and meet all licensing requirements.

I will not be collecting any earnest money or contract deposits now or in the future. Do I still need a trust account?

No, but you will need to upload a statement of explanation. Please make sure it is signed and dated.

I am a salesperson and want to open my own office. Can I do this?

Yes, as long as you are affiliated with a principal broker responsible for supervision.

I do not have a Federal ID number. Can I still register my office?

No.

I am a sole proprietor, and my Federal ID number is my social security number. Do I put my SS # on the form?

Yes, you will need to put your social security number in the place of the federal ID number if that is the number you use.

Does the post-licensure education apply to salesperson licensees who endorse into Vermont?

No.

Do salespersons renewing for the first time need to upload the post-licensure education even though they are not required to complete the CE for their first renewal?

Yes.

No.

How do I access the business profile to renew the brokerage firm license?

The authorized person can log into their individual account and click on the down arrow by their name in the top right corner and then click on the business name which will switch the account to the business profile. Next, click on renew license to renew the brokerage firm license.

What if the authorized person or administrator for the office business profile has changed?

The principal broker, broker in charge or previous administrator will need to upload a change form to the office/firm’s account for updating.

The status of your application/change is available in your online account in real time. Please allow 3-5 business days for processing application, changes and documents that come in post application.
