Naturopathic Physicians > Exam Information
Background
Pursuant to 26 V.S.A. § 4125(d), a naturopathic physician may obtain a special license endorsement authorizing the naturopathic physician to prescribe, dispense, and administer prescription medicines. To obtain the prescribing endorsement, an applicant must pass the approved Naturopathic Physician Licensing Examination (NPLEX) Pharmacology Examination.
Issuance of Endorsement
The prescribing endorsement is issued simultaneous to notice of passing the NPLEX pharmacology examination.
After Obtaining Endorsement
A naturopathic physician holding the prescribing endorsement shall comply with Rule 3.5(b)&(c) by entering into a formal written agreement with an objective and independent supervising physician who shall evaluate the naturopathic physician’s ability to: (1) safely prescribe and administer prescription drugs within the naturopath’s scope of practice; (2) comply with federal and state statutes; and (3) comply with the applicable administrative rules of the Vermont Board of Pharmacy. OPR may request a copy of the Rule 3.5 agreement to verify compliance.
