info

Renewals for Corporations, Nonprofits, MBEs, LLCs, and LLPs are accomplished through Annual/Biennial Report Filing

Assumed Business Name Renewals

Assumed business name registrations must be renewed every five years. Assumed business names may ONLY be renewed within the two months prior to the expiration date on record. You will be notified at the beginning of your renewal period and will be provided with instructions on how to file your renewal. Your renewal period is open when your online Business Status reads Expiration Pending.

To determine your expiration date or registration status, search for the business name online.

Failure to renew your assumed business name during your two month renewal period will result in the expiration of your registration, terminating both your authority to do business in the state of Vermont under the assumed business name and your sole rights to the business name. To reactivate your assumed business name, you will need to reapply.

General Partnership Renewals

General partnerships expire five years following the initial registration or most recent amendment. To renew your general partnership, you must file an amendment. Please see Amendments & Updates.

Failure to maintain or update your general partnership at least once every five years will result in the expiration of your registration, terminating both your authority to do business in the state of Vermont under the partnership’s business name and your sole rights to the partnership’s business name. As of July 1, 2020, general partnerships are no longer registered as such. To reregister your general partnership’s name following expiration, you will need to register the name as an assumed business name as per 11 V.S.A. § 1621 and C.V.R. 04‐020‐001.

Limited Partnership (LP) Renewals

Limited partnerships are, uniquely, not renewed on a specific schedule. Limited partnerships expire upon the termination date provided during initial registration or as updated by amendment. To extend the termination date of your limited partnership, you must file to amend your termination date. Please see Amendments & Updates.
