Jim Condos Sworn in for Fifth Term as Vermont Secretary of State

Montpelier, VT – On Thursday, January 10th Jim Condos was sworn in for his fifth term as Vermont Secretary of State by Governor Phil Scott at the State House in Montpelier.

Secretary Condos has served as Vermont’s 38th Secretary of State since 2011. Prior to being elected Secretary of State he served as a Chittenden County State Senator for four terms starting in 2001, and on the South Burlington City Council for 18 years, including eight years as Chair.

“I want to thank the people of Vermont for giving me privilege to serve as your Secretary of State for another two years,” said Secretary Condos. “Since I was first elected I have made customer service the core of our work in the Secretary of State’s office. I have transformed this office from a paper-driven process to almost entirely online, streamlining government services and creating efficiencies for Vermonters and Vermont business owners.”

Secretary Condos serves as President of the National Association of Secretaries of State. He represents Vermont on the Department of Homeland Security Elections Critical Infrastructure Coordinating Council and is a member of the Council of State Governments Policy Committee on Overseas & Military Voting initiatives.

Addressing priorities for his 5th term as Secretary of State, Secretary Condos said, “as your Secretary I will continue to fight for transparent and accountable government, right-fit regulation for professionals, and common-sense election laws that we can be proud of.”

Secretary Condos will re-appoint Chris Winters as Deputy Secretary of State. Chris Winters has served the Secretary of State’s office for more than 20 years, and was first appointed Deputy Secretary in 2015. Prior, Chris served as Director of the Office of Professional Regulation, a division of the Secretary of State’s office, for 10 years. Chris is a passionate proponent of smart, focused government and accountability through transparency.
