Secretary of State Services > Civics > Vermont Campus Voting Challenge
The Vermont Campus Voting Challenge is a nonpartisan challenge between higher education institutions in Vermont with a commitment to increasing student voter participation and engagement on campuses across the state.
The Vermont Secretary of State office will present civic engagement awards to institutions for reaching their nonpartisan democratic engagement goals. The Secretary will announce highest campus voter turnout, most improved campus voter turnout, and highest student voter registration rate based on student voter participation in the November 2024 election using data from the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement (NSLVE).
The Vermont Secretary of State Office is facilitating this voting challenge in collaboration with the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge (ALL IN), a national nonpartisan initiative of the nonprofit organization Civic Nation. Secretary Copeland Hanzas will present civic engagement awards to institutions for reaching their nonpartisan democratic engagement goals. Awards will be based on meeting objectives mapped out in an institution's nonpartisan democratic engagement action plan. Participation in the Vermont Campus Voting Challenge will automatically include participation in the national ALL IN awards competition that recognizes campuses for higher voter registration, voter turnout, and biggest improvement using data from the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement (NSLVE).
Institutions that opt into the Vermont Campus Voting Challenge will be provided guidance and tools to create an action plan for increasing student engagement on their campus. There is no sign-up cost to participate.
